Learning about TPO, Part 1: Why It Works for Commercial & Residential Tampa Roofing

arry'stpoTPO, or thermoplastic polyolefin, is a very popular material used for roofing Tampa commercial structures, but it can also be used on homes. It’s a sort of reinforced rubber that’s extremely durable and able to withstand the demands of rooftop exposure. TPO stands up well to rough treatment and resists tears and punctures. Properly installed TPO will last for 10-20 years, depending on how it’s installed.

TPO comes in long lengths which are then heat-welded together, making it a versatile choice for structures of all sizes and functions. It’s considered one of the most economical options for large, low-slope roofing applications like you’d find on top of a warehouse, shopping center or restaurant, which is why millions of square feet are installed annually.

Most commonly manufactured in white, TPO does a great job reflecting heat and therefore keeps the interior of a building cooler. Manufacturers are also coming out with various light colors as an alternative to white. In addition, TPO is 100% recyclable. For these reasons, it’s considered a “green” roofing material.
